Photography and video
You cannot buy a photograph of your own capability.
There is no stock image of your shop floor, your tolerances or your people. And military stock is off limits, because it is not yours to imply. So we come to you, shoot the real thing under escort, and produce imagery you are actually allowed to publish.
The shoot
Every frame is decided before we arrive.
The problem
Stock imagery says nothing about you.
A generic photograph of a generic factory tells a prime nothing. Worse, it tells them you had nothing of your own to show, which is the opposite of the impression a supplier is trying to make.
Defence suppliers are more stuck than most. You cannot use imagery that implies a Defence or ADF association you do not have, you should not be reaching for military hardware you do not make, and there is no stock library that contains your plant, your process or your finish quality. The one thing that would actually make your case is the thing only a camera in your building can produce.
So most suppliers end up with a website carrying a stock photo of somebody else's workshop, a capability statement with an empty visual quadrant, and a quad chart where the panel that is supposed to show what you make shows a logo instead.
What we produce
Three levels, one visit.
Every level is a single planned visit, and every level ends with files you own and are cleared to publish. Choose by what you need to fill, not by what sounds most impressive.
| Level | On site | You receive |
|---|---|---|
| StillsFacility, plant, process, product and people. The set that fills a website, a capability statement and the visual quadrant of a quad chart. | Half to one day | Edited stills, web and print resolution |
| Stills and a capability filmThe stills set, plus a short film that walks a viewer through what your business does and what it is set up to make. | One to two days | Stills, plus a short film and cutdowns |
| Full productionMore than one site, or more than one line, or a shoot that has to work around production rather than pause it. Scoped to what your operation actually allows. | Scoped to the operation | Full library, film and social cutdowns |
Interstate travel is quoted separately and stated up front. A Perth shoot from Melbourne costs two days of travel around the shoot itself, and we would rather you saw that in the quote than found it in an invoice.
Security
The list of what we do not photograph.
This is the part a general commercial photographer cannot offer you, and it is the reason this service exists inside a defence consultancy rather than a studio.
A shop floor is not a neutral space. Drawings, work in progress, part markings, a screen left open, a job card on a bench: any of it can carry controlled technical data, or identify a program you are not free to name. A photographer who does not know that will hand you a beautiful image you can never use, or worse, one you use and should not have.
- You set the boundaries before we arrive. We walk the plan with you and agree the areas, benches and screens that are out of frame, in writing, before a camera comes out of the bag.
- Escorted throughout. Nobody from our side moves through your facility unaccompanied at any point.
- You approve every frame. Nothing leaves the site or reaches an edit until you have reviewed it and signed a release. If you want a frame deleted, it is deleted.
- Your release decision stays yours. We do not decide what is publishable. We tell you what we noticed in frame, and you decide.
- Handled in Australia. Facility material is not sent offshore at any stage, and it is not stored anywhere you have not agreed to.
To be plain about what this is not: we do not provide legal, export control, classification or security advice, and we are not a substitute for your own release process. We work inside it.
How it runs
Planned before anyone picks up a camera.
A shoot that turns up and wanders is how you get four hundred frames and nothing you can use. Every visit is planned against what the imagery has to do.
First, what it is for. We start from where the images will be published: the website hero, the capability statement, the visual quadrant of a quad chart, a stand graphic. That decides the shot list, the orientations and the crops, because a panel three metres wide needs a different frame than a one page document.
Then the plan. A shot list and a walk order, agreed with you, including the exclusions. You know what we are shooting and in what sequence before we arrive, and so does whoever is escorting us.
Then the day. Production is delivered with a professional crew under our direction and our contract. You deal with us throughout, and the same confidentiality terms bind everyone on site.
Then the edit. Graded and finished to the same standard as everything else we produce, and delivered as files you own, in the sizes the places they are going actually need.
Careful by default
A photograph is a claim.
An image asserts things that words would have to be careful about. A shot framed to imply a capability you do not hold, a program you are not on, or an association you do not have, is a claim you would never put in writing, made in a medium where nobody checks it.
So the same standard applies here as everywhere else we work. No framing that implies a Defence, ADF or prime endorsement. No insignia, no flags, no Coat of Arms, no hardware that is not yours. Nothing that would embarrass you in front of a buyer who knows the sector.
It is your facility and your reputation. We would rather produce five images you can use anywhere than fifty you have to think twice about.
Where we say no
Some facilities should not be photographed at all.
Sometimes the answer is that this is not the right service for your site, and we will tell you that in the first conversation rather than after a deposit.
If your restrictions mean the only publishable frames would be the car park and the front door, the visit is not worth your money. If your prime obligations or your own security requirements make imagery a problem, we will say so. And if what you actually need is a diagram rather than a photograph, we will build the diagram instead, which is cheaper and often clearer.
This service is new to what we offer. The judgement about what belongs in front of a defence buyer, and what does not, is not.
Show what you actually do. Nothing more.
Want to show what your facility can do?
Tell us where your site is and what the imagery has to fill, and we will come back with a shot plan, the exclusions to agree, and what it costs including travel. If your restrictions make a shoot the wrong call, we will tell you that instead.
